How to Upload your Microsoft Dynamics Navision/ Business Central 365 data

Modified on Tue, 18 Apr, 2023 at 4:34 PM

Before attempting to upload your accounts to Shield Assure, please ensure the following:

  • You are online and connected to the internet.
  • You have a working Accounting Package and you are able to access the data you wish to upload within the Accounting Package.
  • You know which version of Microsoft Dynamics Navision you wish to upload data from.
  • You know the SQL Server Instance Name.
  • You know the Database name you wish to upload data from.
  • You know the SQL Server User ID and Password that can access the Microsoft Dynamics data.
  • You know which Company you want to upload data from.

vClient will attempt to discover your SQL Server instance and populate the instance name for you. If you only have one instance of Microsoft Dynamics Navision installed on your desktop and this installation has only one company loaded DataShare Connect will automatically upload this company.

You may need to ask your IT department for some of the above information. ODBC DSN names can be found in the ODBC Administrator tool under the "System DSN" tab.

Once the vClient (DataShare Connect) application installs it will begin connecting to your Accounting Package. The vClient (DataShare Connect) package is quite small and will be automatically removed from your desktop once the upload process has been completed.

Single Company Configuration

Once the vClient (DataShare Connect) application is installed, it will automatically launch and attempt to discover and connect to the Microsoft Dynamics Accounting Package.

If you only have one instance of Microsoft Dynamics Navision installed with only one company within that configuration, the system will automatically begin the upload of that company without any further prompts or requests for credentials.

Depending on the size of your database and the number of entries it contains this process may take a few minutes. Once all data has been extracted the data is compressed, encrypted, and transmitted securely to Shield Assure.

You can continue with other tasks whilst the extraction takes place. Do not close the vClient (DataShare Connect) window or interrupt the extraction process.

When the upload completes the success message is presented and you may select Close.

Multi-Company Configuration

Once the vClient (DataShare Connect) application is installed it will automatically launch and attempt to discover and populate the instance name of the Microsoft Dynamics Navision SQL Server. When more than one Microsoft Dynamics Navision compatible database is discovered you will be asked to specify which database you wish to use.

Enter the SQL Server Instance Name and the Database Name.

When the SQL Server Instance Name and Database Name have been completed the Next button will appear. Click Next to proceed.

Choose the Company that you want to upload and click Next.

The extraction process will begin and progress will be displayed on the screen.
